I’ve heard the name, but this is wild, truly an endless wormhole and I am partial to Japanese Noise bands so thank you.
I think this thread has gone too long without mention of Ty Segall:
Another one of those people who knows everyone and worked on endless projects in every psych style:
Epsilons and GØGGS are a couple more, but he pops up everywhere when you start looking. He also shares the same manager with King Gizz (same with SPELLLING above).
Just got tickets for Ty, I’m going in sight unseen I think… Never really gave them a listen but it was the same with Acid Mother’s Temple before I caught them.
Good idea, I think it will all make sense about 30 seconds into the music. Though it depends on the show/band too! He’s recently been doing acoustic styled stuff solo, but I doubt he ever disappoints.
King Gizzard is technically on this, but I think it still belongs here:
I’m only listening to it for the first time now and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to try it out. It’s all covers by Australian bands of the songs in Lenny Kaye’s original 60s Garage/Psych Nuggets compilation. So apart from King Gizz covering Nazz, you’ve got The Murlocs and other friends like The Frowning Clouds and Pond, as well as a whole bunch of other bands who were getting started around the same time. Really great stuff, and fully anachronistic.
Just saw Osees again last night!! Visiting my sister+brother-in-law in Portland and took them to the Crystal Ballroom. My fourth show, at the venue where I saw them the first time. My sister said she had a moment similar to Frank Reynolds saying “I get it.” Incredible show.
Most of the recommendations do not fit to my favourite records of KGLW, something more Metal/Thash (like Infest the rats or Petro). I would be very happy if someone can recommend something more in that direction
My two cents are that you check ELDER, quite good songs, quite stoner but complex and rich. For example Catarsis or Merged in the dreams from their last album.
Oh wow i never knew about this documentary. I’ve seen Fearless Freaks bunch, but this from 2000 apprears to predate that documentary. Early Flaming Lips needs more recognition imo:
Towards the end includees the most footage I’ve seen of the “parking lot experiments” that led to Zaireeka. Also some of their Soft Bulletin tour without a live drummer. Super dope
True, most of us here don’t seem to be dedicated enough metalheads to go deep beyond Gizz.
In my experience Gojira - From Mars to Sirius was a good precursor to ITRN and PDA:
Not fully techincal metal, but this is a classic worth checking out just for the artwork that clearly inspired Omnium Gatherum too:
