Dude, this band is so tight it’s nuts. Penguin In Bondage is my new favorite song just right now…
Currently at Wowie Zowie. Love these versions of the Freak Out! tracks.
Thanks for the reminder. Gonna watch this afternoon.
Wow, awesome watch. Apostrophe whooped me after that sick sequence of early Mothers tunes.
Forgot to post these yesterday with Swaggart’s death. If Zappa was here he’d be smiling.
Missed the Cheaper than Cheep free YouTube weekend, so may buy the Blu Ray of it…
If you liked that you should 100% check out The Roxy movie! Just as awesome from roughly the same era.
Spinning some Joe’s Corsage today. Really good posthumous release full of 1965 demos. They should get this one on vinyl.
Chungas Revenge!
Slowly making my way through vault releases and stumbled onto this fantastic Yellow Snow Suite
I can’t get over how much that rocked. What a great listen for my morning at work!
This era of Zappa is so fun. I think without this kinda music we don’t get Han-Tyumi!
“Very, very, very-very, fast”
“Lisa knows what to do with the second hyphen”
oh man, i’m so glad to read this message. I’ve always dreamed of such a Zappa site, ever since my inital fascination with the Money era (especially the demo acetate particularly the Lonely Little Girl/BWS Theme business). Setlist.fm just doesn’t cut it for certain things hence the existence of a site like this
Overnite sensation/apostrophe era has some of the best. Live and otherwise. I’m a big fan of Down in de Dew which eventually made it to Läther but is on The Crux of the Biscuit dating it to around ‘73.
Down In De Dew is one of my favorite Zappa instrumentals. Blew my mind when I learned that Apostrophe was meant to be a bridge for it back when it was called Energy Frontier.
I actually forgot all about that. It makes total sense. Love this recording.
Been working on that Zappa arrangement document I mentioned a few posts back and figured out that the song with the most appearances is King Kong. There’s a few others that get close like Peaches en Regalia and Inca Roads but King Kong could fill an entire page. (If you’re wondering what the most played song is, its City of Tiny Lites according to setlist.fm. King Kong is the 33rd most played.)
New Zappa announcement! 50th anniversary release for One Size Fits All. Not a massive bundle but that Rotterdam show sounds good.
Some pre-Gizz listening
Haven’t looked at it in a while, but I think We’re Only in it for the Touring does what you’re looking for at least a little bit.
