There’s an Umprehy’s/Lotus double bill about an hour away from me tonight but dont think I’m making it anymore. Good thing ive seen them both individually already lol
Billy-less Strings might be the coolest shit I have ever seen. Incredible special shows. Feel so inspired and deeply lucky.
We saw Sturgill Simpson at the Fox in DET on Saturday. Such a good show. He played straight thru from 8-11. Felt more like a jam band concert than a country or rock show. Great covers, LA woman, midnight rider, whiter shade of pale, Purple rain!!! Stuff from all his albums, but the Sound and Fury material especially was so groovy and energetic.
So jealous, he’s been my country obsession lately.
Makes sense with what youre saying, he was added to nugs.net recently for his shows. I’m going to check them out when I get a chance.
whoa y’all Andre 3000 has ascended to the realm of Sun Ra
really?
Deets?
I couldn’t explain better than this guy can
…I will add that it sure feels like Andre has had some ayahuasca experiences in the last 10 years
I was able to catch Goose at the beginning of the summer in Philly. I love their clean sound and vocals.
Anyone catching Phish for the NYE run? I’ll be heading up for the 12/29 show.
This week I caught
Bombino - highly recommend…there’s probably a better description but African dubs and Hendrix-like psychedelic guitar from the Niger desert. It was a tiny show.
Eggy - have seen multiple times now and listen to most their shows. Deep pocket, vocals continuously improving, and can go type 2 at will. Jake Brownstein’s custom Frank Bros guitars are beautiful, amazing tone, and paired with a few Chase Bliss pedals dude has improv dialed. Choice covers.
Excited for STS9 + Lettuce for two nights in Chicago next week. Most of my listening hours are owned by Sector 9. Coming off their ChromaLight release, Camp Elsewhere in NY, and RRX, they’re firing. Their modular improvs, especially w/Alana Rocklin’s bass skills are transcending.
Sofi Tukker in a few weeks
BEAT (King Crimson supergroup) in November
Unfortunately, that’s it for now
If I do one, it’ll be 12/29. That’s my MSG date. Gives me time to get home to the family for NYE and not be too exhausted.
I’ve seen Bombino a couple of times, but it was like 5-6 years ago. Loved it, but I’ve always been a sucker for Tinariwen and Tuaregs with guitars.
I also saw Eggy, just not the one you’re talking about. Australian Eggy, Eric Moore brother’s band, playing in front of 50 people. They were not bad Met Eric too.
Made it to the Phish Dicks run, saw Sturgill Simpson at the Gorge, and got to catch Azymuth! All great shows. Going to see Mong Tong in Seattle next Wednesday the 16th!
How did I miss him in ATX?!?
Caught Maggie Rogers last night, she put on a great performance as usual. Her voice and stage presence are excellent.
Didn’t go to ACL in person for the first time in a long time (aside from Covid year) but I caught the Sturgill livestream and the Khruangbin set on delay, both of which were enjoyable. Khruangbin brought out Leon Bridges for Texas Sun shortly after sunset with the city in the background which was a treat.
JRAD at The Fox in Oakland and The Musical Box at The Regency Ballroom in SF, both later this month. The Regency is where King Gizz is playing the Rave show. Want to get an idea of how small this place is? Check out the seating chart for the Musical Box show. Pretty sure its around 700 seats:
