Doom Gong 100% certified sick live show. They didn’t stop playing all night and their breadth of pysch sounds (so called “Denim Pysch”) is impressive. The Gong Rings On!
I just saw Meltt last night in Miami
Tomorrow night The New Mastersounds in Stuart, FL
I have, the Uptown Jug Champions/Old and In the Way were pretty much my introductions to Bluegrass haha.
Phish NYE is next for us.
We used to do most of the full 4-show NYE runs back in the 2010s, but with a kid that’s not really all that possible these days. So my wife and I have taken to hitting the Amtrak from Boston to NYC and just doing the 1 night. Its nice to have an Amtrak station about 10 minutes from our house that literally delivers us to the venue!
I have liked some of his earlier albums but I wasn’t aware of this, thanks!
In two weeks is my most anticipated show (save for FoV) of the year - The Mars Volta. They are playing the entire new album live which I’m super stoked about since it’s my favorite from this year without question. Can not wait.
Sounds like I should check their new album out, eh?
I really liked them for a while back in the aughts but they gently drifted off my radar. Anything else worth checking out from them from 2010 on?
Seeing if I have the energy to drive 4 hours round trip to see Nick Shoulders on a Tuesday night. He’s been on my list forever though…
Well they went on hiatus through most of the 2010s after Noctourniquet came out, which I’m not super fond of that record. But their two come back albums this decade have been phenomenal if you ask me, however it’s very different from their 2000s material.
The self titled album is borderline pop but it’s so emotionally powerful if you ask me. I have a very personal connection with that album though so I get why fans may have not been super into it.
The newest album, Lucro Sucio, is very spacey and plays like one big track. It’s kind of like synth wave mixed with alt and prog rock? Idk how to describe it exactly but I love it a ton.
Got Tame Impala coming up on Saturday. Likely my last show of the year.
Right on, I’ll check it out – appreciate your two cents
I just got tickets for High on Fire with Secret Chiefs 3. I’m a huge fan of Secret Chiefs 3. (I drew their classic logo, FWIW) and I haven’t seen them in several years. They’re always serious shredders live. I know there is some overlap in the fan base. I’ve never seen High on Fire but I really enjoy their music so I figure they’ll be great. I did see Sleep live once and that was incredible.
Going to see the Australian Pink Floyd Show on Saturday. Very excited!
Returning to say this was one of the best shows I’ve seen this year and while it’s not for everyone (I guess Volta never have been really), this current iteration of the band was otherworldly to see last night. It’s nearing the end of the tour so I can’t really say “go see them if you can reservations aside” unless you are in CA.
But man, what a fucking show. In the top 3 of this year without a doubt.
Just caught my last show of the year over the weekend – My Bloody Valentine’s comeback show in Dublin. There were a few technical issues which seemingly have been a constant fixture of the tour so far, but even with those it was an incredible show. Definitely not as loud as they used to be – mostly didn’t feel any louder than a typical rock show in my experience, except for Soon and You Made Me Realise, and there were a few folks on Reddit who measured the decibel levels and apparently it was indeed down to typical rock show levels. I’d have loved the whole show to have been at those levels, but I think it’s probably best for my hearing they weren’t… I recorded it too, of course: My Bloody Valentine Live at 3Arena on 2025-11-22 : My Bloody Valentine : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive
So far I have tickets next year for David Byrne, Kraftwerk, Tortoise, Anna von Hausswolff, Orcutt Shelley Miller and Magdalena Bay. If I can make it out to the US, I definitely want to try and hit Field of Vision too, but we’ll see how that goes.
You’re going to love that David Byrne show – I didn’t realize he was taking his tour overseas, that’s awesome. Psycho Killer is on the setlist! I caught his previous American Utopia tour and thought it was one of the most wonderful concerts I’ve seen, and I understand he’s built onto that concept a bit more with this one. It was actually almost more like a broadway show than a concert, in a wonderful way.
Recently caught Agriculture and, two days later, Boris and both bands were excellent, especially Boris. I’ve seen them maybe 4-5 times now and this set was something special.
Damn, seems like a good lineup for you next year. Would love to see Anna von Hausswolff, her stuff is incredible. She only has like 5-6 shows on her calendar in the US for next year, really hoping she adds more and comes to my city.
I’ve been a fan of The Mars Volta since like, 2007 or so. I was riding around in my friend’s car and they put on Frances the Mute and Cygnus…Vismund Cygnus blew my teenage mind. They were my favorite band for years, but my interest in them over time has waned. Their new material since reuniting has not really done it for me other than a track or two. I saw them a couple of years ago, twice, after they got back together and they played their classics with 2-3 new tracks and they were pretty good, but not GREAT. I walked away feeling like the magic they captured in a bottle when they were in their prime had escaped them a bit. Compared to black midi, who I saw a few days after the first reunion show I saw of theirs and played like lightning, it was obvious that they were just moving into the autumn of their ecstatic careers. They will always hold a special place in my heart, but when I saw they were playing their newest album in its entirety on this tour, I just felt like it was ok if I skipped this one. So glad you enjoyed it though!
Same here, I got into them in 2007 through Deloused my freshman year of high school, but I was aware of Frances because of ads on MTV a couple years earlier. They’ve been consistently one of my favorite bands for ages, but I had never seen them during their most active years. Seen them three times this decade now, twice when they played Seattle for their comeback tour and this one.
I totally respect people not feeling the newer stuff, it’s definitely very different and pretty divisive. Granted I’d argue the band always broke peoples expectations down because when Amputecture and Bedlam came out, people HATED those albums, hoping for more deloused or Frances. But I also get that it’s missing that frenetic, bombastic chaos found in the earlier 4 albums.
I love both TMV and Lucro, and I will say it’s in large part because of how I emotionally attached myself to this bands sound. TMV hit particularly hard for me because the subject matter of the album (A retribution album about Danny Masterson’s sexual abuse toward Cedric’s wife, and the whole church of scientology stuff) hit close to home, albeit not 1:1. I’ll spare the gory details but it came out at a time where I had a deep falling out with someone who had been abusive to me for years. So the personal connection is pretty intense and oddly timed with the albums release.
Lucro also had a weird timing for release combined with stuff going on in my personal life, but it’s far less intense but still equally impactful. Genuinely think it’s a masterpiece.
