What other shows (non King Gizz) are you seeing?

I caught em both this weekend, really great show! I taped both sets too:

Redd Kross
Melvins

Nice recordings. “Working the Ditch” is a great opener, those drums hit you right in the stomach. Totally worth to see them live (and their tickets are even cheap, you’d be a fool not to see them when they’re in your area).

Upcoming shows: Camper Van Beethoven in September, and Robyn Hitchcock (electric band show) in November. (Guess my age group. )

Just saw my last concert for August last night: Redd Kross, Juanita & Juan (aka Alice Bag & Kid Congo Powers), Kate Clover and Keith Morris DJing. August was a very slim month for concerts. I only saw four: Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl 8/3, KGLW at the Hollywood Bowl 8/10, Tedeschi Trucks Band at the Greek 8/13, and Redd Kross at MacArthur Park 8/30.

But now it is about to get hectic. Here are the concerts I have coming up:
9.5: Supergrass @ Hollywood Palladium
9.12: Grandaddy @ Fonda Theatre
9.15: Neil Young @ Hollywood Bowl
9.18: ORB @ Teragram Ballroom (the psyche band not the EDM band)
9.19: Circle Jerks @ Hollywood Palladium
9.20: Slow Crush @ Teragram Ballroom
9.21: Air w/ LA Philharmonic @ Hollywood Bowl
9.25: The Hives @ Hollywood Palladium
9.30: Sparks @ Greek Theatre
10.11: OSEES @ Teragram Ballroom
10.17: Wet Leg @ Greek Theatre
10.18: Devo & B-52s @ Hollywood Bowl
10.25: Stereolab @ Bellwether
11.5: The Saints @ Teragram Ballroom
11.22: Robert Plant/Saving Grace @ Ace Theatre

Friend of mine saw Deltron 3030 in Chicago, said it was awesome.

Then this past weekend we both saw Queens of the Stone Age in Chicago, that was incredible as well.

They had a lot of orchestra arrangements at their show, not to the same scale as Gizz, but a core focus for sure. Was very unique, saw a couple songs I did not think I would ever get to see.

Warm-up for the Euro tour, starting tomorrow…

Sunn O)))
God is an Astronaut
Tamikrest
Shame
Valley of the Sun
Swans

Rocktober has been eventful.

3 shows by Tedeschi Trucks Band (Clearwater & St. Augustine)

1 Gov’t Mule (Ft. Lauderdale)

Halloween with The Mars Volta (Miami Beach)

Recently attended a local Folk/Bluegrass festival, which apparently is a bit of a destination in the scene as that stuff is not popular at all in Australia. Saw some really cool stuff, fair bit of mandolin/banjo picking which I’ve never seen in person before. Also almost all traditional 1 mic setups, with up to 12 people on stage at once! Very impressive to see/hear in person, amazing how good it all sounds.

It’s funny though because it hasn’t really left me with much to listen to n the mean time, a lot of these bands don’t even seem to record, let alone stream their music. That’s what its all about I suppose.

I caught Melvins / Napalm Death earlier this year. Every Melvins show I’ve seen has been different and every one has been awesome.

Castle Rat was a lot of fun. Their chops and songs and whole vibe is great and their low budget Dio stage show schtick was a hoot.

Maruja were fucking awesome earlier this month. They do an interesting blend of hardcore and free jazz with a sort of off kilter spoken word rap. Really fucking aggressive alternating with spaced out melodic jazz sections. Really great show. I went to that one solo and was like the second oldest guy on the floor. It’s been a while since I been out moshing around. My Dad Mode kicked in when I had to make sure some crowd surfer landed safely when the people he was headed towards were just filming. Cracked me up.

Have you heard of Sturgill Simpson’s two Cutting Grass albums? He gets a killer bluegrass band and redoes a lot of his songs in that mode. They absolutely shred.

Just got a ticket to see Iron Maiden/Megadeth/Anthrax in Montreal next summer!!

Anyone else going on that tour? Never seen any of them so super pumped!
