Yes. I had never seen him until No Name tour early 2025 and he fucken rocked. Now he’s on my list to catch every time I can. I’ll be at the last two nights of current tour in Atlanta in November.

A little late to this one but fantastic new single by the Avalanches with Portraits of Tracy.
Their first two albums are among my favourites ever, and the latest seemed to meant to be their last, so I can’t really grasp what this one is about. The aesthetic just throws me, so I’m waiting until the whole thing is out.
So, obviously today was Alien Metal day, but the new Phoebe Bridgers album is out too. Some gorgeous instrumentation and already some of my favourite Phoebe Bridgers lyrics ever.
And in a bit of a tone shift, I finally got around to the latest Denzel Curry single, and it’s got me so hyped for the full album. This is fire!

New Mastodon, Marrow Deep, today. Did not think they were going to drop such an incredible album without Brent Hinds but Holy Shit it’s great. My favorite band of this century still. One of the most emotionally mature metal albums ever.
Solo Mike D , Thank You out today. It doesn’t sound like Beasties but it still sounds like Mike D. He always did some weird ass parts and this is a weird ass album that is growing on me big time. There is a through-line to their first single Cookie Puss here. Beasties were my favorite band of the 20th century and I always wanted them to get old and do weirder and weirder music, so this weirdo album is music to my heart.

This will be a good chance for me to check out Mastodon again. I’m not a huge metal fan, but like a few specific albums, including Emperor of Sand.

I was really in love with Mastodon between 2002 and 2008, but the last time I saw them in the Crack The Skye era is was apparent that Brent was already pretty checked out and it was a bummer. They never did much for me after that. I am happy the rest of them can be healthy and persevere. All of that being said, Leviathan is absolutely one of the greatest albums of rhe 21st century, really unimpeachable.

Andrew W.K. - Temptation To Exist. Not a massive W.K. fan but this was interesting. Surprise jazz album drop. Like it came straight out of a noir film.
The Who - Imagine A Man (Pete Vocal/Early Mix). Who By Numbers is very underrated and I’m excited to hear what’s on this new super deluxe.

SC3 has been recording new music for over a decade, only releasing some 7” singles and odd bits here and there. Us fans have been holding our breath for this next stage for years. This KS will help make it a reality.
I’m proselytizing here because so many of you will LOVE SC3. They’re a bit like Gizz in thet every album is a different genre or mix of genres, every tour is different mix of the “sub bands” that make up SC3. The surf band UR is the most common, but neopythagorian microtonal camel funk Ishraqyyun is many people’s favorite aspect ( the middle eastern sounding stuff). This KS promises the first Holy Vhem album beyond the two songs we’ve heard. Thats the death metal sub band. It goes on. Imaginary film scores, weird pop covers.
I should disclose that I worked for SC3 for years but I have no part in benefiting from this other than as a fan. In the video you will see some of the album covers, tour posters and band logos that I created over the years at Trey Spruance’s art direction. ( not all the stuff you see is mine, not even most. ) I’ve been waiting for DECADES for some of these coming releases.

I was in on the 7 inches this morning after it was announced. I am sure I will end up getting more. I have yet to see SC3 because whenever they have come through MN they are opening for someone else I do not care about and it just doesn’t work out. Which is probably what is happening again in a few weeks. But I am gonna try.

I’m seeing them on the Igorrr tour. I enjoy Igorrr but am going for SC3. I also have tix for a one off Oakland Angine de Poitrine/ SC3 show in December. Tickets went FAST for that. Minutes!
I’ve seen Secret Chiefs about 20ish times and loved em every time.

That AdP and SC3 show will be amazing. I hope some of the AdP nuts will give SC3 a chance and have their minds blown.
Been listening to the new Sleep. I like it for what it is, I don’t need to hate it because Matt Pike isn’t there. But it does not sound like Sleep, nor does it sound like OM. It doesn’t even sound like Shrinebuilder with whom it shares more members. It is an Al Cisneros album with Sleep slapped on it, like Sabbath’s Seventh Star was a Tony Iommi solo album. This is better than that though. I am curious how the old material will sound with Dale and Bubba. I hope they make it to the second leg of the tour so I get to see them and judge for myself.

Just go and watch them, it works. You can attend shows just for the support band. I do that when a band I like is in the area, why not? Can still choose then to stay around and maybe be surprised (like a band you may not like on albums can be really good live) or leave.

I understand how it works, I have been going to shows for a very long time. If we need to get into it, I go to quite a few shows and I try to be discerning about my budget. I have to weigh the cost of the headliner vs seeing the band I know I like for 30 minutes. Plus, I take into account the venue and the location. Sometimes I pull the trigger, sometimes I don’t. And sometimes I end up missing bands I really want to see because of life and schedule.
