KGLW.net Music League - League VIII: Decades

Is it always 20 points? I feel like distributing votes would be a lot harder with 3 or even 2 times the tracks. But this is fun! Instrumental is going to be a tough one. It’s already sending my brain in five directions at once.

I’ve kind of lost track of where this is at. Does voting for round 1 stay open for a certain period?
It doesn’t let me vote because I didn’t make a submission so I’m keen for the next round.

Great timing, this round will end as soon as the last person votes (I just voted so we have 1 more to go). The next round will start right at 11:00 PM EDT (a little less than 3 hours from now).

Re: the scoring and stuff… I did 20 points because I wasn’t sure of what kinda turnout we’d have here. We will adjust the points available going forward.

I think after the Instrumental round we can have a quick conversation about how many points we want to do and possibly add a 2nd song submission for each round (rather than just 1 we have now)? If we like 20 people that can be 40 songs per playlist but with 9 thats just 18 which is a decent sized playlist.

Eager to here what you all think about that and of course to see how the votes and comments turn out for this round  glad that everyone seems to be enjoying this so far! This playlist friggin rocks and the current leader in points is a new band to me and I’ve already listened to an album by them like 5 times through.

All sounds good to me. I agree we only need one thread for this, but since they got merged, its all a little mixed up. Maybe could you have a go at editing the first post with everything we need to know (category submission spreadsheet link, voting points etc.)?

Done! I will do my best to keep it up to date

Austin if you are reading this you have 30 minutes to vote :timer_clock: Let me know if you would like an extension.

Man this instrumental round was way harder than I thought it would be. I have a playlist of instrumental music that I try and not overload with Jazz or electronic stuff, so I thought I’d just pick something from that until I realized it goes for over 17 hours.

It’s here! Playlist for the final round:

Can’t wait to dig in! :musical_note:

I see five bands I’ve never heard of. That’s exciting!

Super dope playlist. Going to be an interesting vote.

It is very cool, a few things in there I’m not familiar with at all too. I nearly went for some Buckethead actually which may have suited the vibe a bit better, but still fascinating how on the same page we all were!

This is a reminder for everyone that still hasn’t submitted their votes! :spiral_calendar: :alarm_clock:

I’m usually a last day voter. I find my opinion changes a lot and then solidifies after a few days of listening. Gotta let it seep into the deeper parts of my lizard :lizard: brain.

I got my votes in. Sad that this first league is ending, but if there is interest I would love to start it right back up!

Couple questions here on format:

First question - Should we keep the format 1 song submission per person or increase it to 2 per person?

  • 1 song per person
  • 2 songs per person
0 voters

Second question - We ended up with 8 people and thus 8 songs, with 20 total points to spend. Normally, since the number of songs can vary depending on some other factors I like to think about this in a total points : total songs ratio so this worked out to 2.5 points to spend per song last round.

Did you think this was…

  • Too few points per song
  • Just the right amount of points per song
  • Too many points per song

Finally, considering the amount of time granted to listen to the playlist before voting…

  • There was not enough time to fully listen to the playlist before voting
  • The amount of time to listen to the playlist before voting was just right
  • There was far too much time to listen to the playlist before voting

Feel free to vote in these polls or I’ll just use my own best judgement.

Also, feel free to suggest some more categories in the spreadsheet! We already have 11 categories in there so I will post a poll later to vote on what categories we should have for the next one.

Thank you to everyone who has participated in the league so far, this has been great and I hope we can keep it going!

I’m definitely onboard to keep up with this. It would be great to see more forum users join. I know for a fact that a bunch of you all have excellent and eclectic taste.

Yeah I can make that 24 hours, seems a bit more reasonable?

Excellent suggestions on the spreadsheet, all! I was even gonna add “songs from the future” and then saw @omin0us had already jotted that one down!

A nice to add is songs from a specific year (normally random), but I like @W.B.T.G.Slinger suggestion of 1967 to start with a specific year.

For the ‘genres’ category, we could get really crazy and pick out something from https://everynoise.com at random

Oh and congrats to @Listening_Wind for being our first champion  music league is more about the journey than the destination but it still is quite sweet to come out on top!
