I think those are some of the best covers I ever listened to.
Currently, Quarters!
I’m editing together a 6 hour augmented video of Gizz for the weekend. I’m trying to stick with all live material but “God is in the rhythm” is going to have to be studio. Unless anyone knows of a quality live recording I can use?
Not seeing any recordings of God Is In The Rhythm on tapes.kglw.net
It’s been almost10 years since they played it according to the kglw.net booth at mirage city. The only thing I found was a bit on the holiday hell video but the quality isn’t up to snuff for what I’m doing.
Maybe at FOV3? ![]()
I knew about them for years, but for some reason never really listened to them. It’s so nice when pieces fall into place. Primus, Mr. Bungle and many, many others, it all makes sense now. Really changes the view.
There’s a video of Stu playing God Is In the Rhythm solo at this show.
Been listening a lot to the new Russian Circles album a decent amount. Been listening to them for years and every album is exactly what you expect from them - nothing more, nothing less. Just solid post-metal.
A few other random songs from Nilüfer Yanya, Four Tet, and that new EP from The Field.
About this Hypnotic Floor album – I don’t know a lot about album production, but this recording sounds very compressed to me. The music is good, but everything’s at 100% all the time. There’s never a drop in volume or a variation in intensity, so it gets a bit exhausting. I’m going to try to find some live recordings to see if they sound more varied.
My teenage brain could not comprehend Aqualung. I liked it, but I had no idea why.
Was listening to this making supper tonight:
I saw Hum a few times in the mid 90’s, never thought too much of them at the time. I mostly needed things to be faster, heavier or weirder. I get it in retrospect, but I was surprised when their reputation grew in their absence. There is always a time and a place, yet I couldn’t always see it when it was right in front of me.
Never seen them in person but I can totally see what you’re saying when it comes to seeing them live.
I just found this Three Mile Pilot EP on Bandcamp, and liked most of it (except maybe the first track). Is anybody else here into Three Mile Pilot or Black Heart Procession? Several years back, I was really into a couple of Black Heart Procession albums, and now want to listen to them again. I’m not sure how I ever found these bands, and they’re not very similar to other things I liked, but they’ve recorded some really good stuff.
Weirdly, I just now remembered that I went to a BHP (or maybe 3MP?) show many years back, and I can remember going and even meeting Pall Jenkins at the merch table, but I can’t really recall the show itself. This was probably during early parenthood, when my brain was too fried to retain a lot of memories. (Who needs drugs when you have a small child and sleep deprivation?) ![]()
This is the album that really got me into Black Heart Procession. I remember one of the first times I listened to, my wife was at the other end the house when I put this on, and called out, “what is this?!?” (in a good way). ![]()
I’ve never listened to the album on my own accord but honestly the first time I heard Ray of Light I fucking cried.
Now playing. Thanks!
Miscellaneous Debris led me to a lifelong love of The Meters. Thanks Les!
Glad to hear it.
My mom died this year, and she was a long time addict to some ugly drugs. I spent spent decades trying to not hate that about her so I could maintain some kind of tether for her to the family, and it was only after she died that I even allowed myself to be angry at her. I feel like Poisonous Weapons is a song all about those kind of mixed feelings. I feel that throughout the album. “I love you and I miss you and fuck you for making yourself this way and ruining what we had and I would forgive you in a second if you could just fucking stop acting like that. “.
My sincere condolences. It is hard to have loved alcoholic and adicts. Lots of conflicted emotions.
Just had an anniversary of a loss to drugs this week. 23 years. It was not a parent, but a parental replacement figure, and I realized near the end of the day how much less potent my feelings were after all of this time. And the anger was gone. The memories remain.
