i could not agree any more with the Final Cut
It’s a hard listen front to back for me, but definitely some haunting stuff that I love on there too. Southampton Dock, Two Suns in the Sunset…
Spinning the 4-hour Four Tet + Fred Again… set they did in Toronto on Nov 15th at work today.
Love love love Four Tet but not super familiar with Fred Again so looking forward to what is in store.
Yes
James, being the most slept on NO piano player, also played with Jerry Garcia. That’s how I got hip to James, and am so happy to see someone else knows. ![]()
Thanks. Will def check on this. Huge Four Tet here. He just dropped a set from The Lot, last week.
I listened to that last night! My James Booker listening feast continues and that JGB show was something I just learned about yesterday. He’s like Forest Gump, brushing up against so much history. He taught Harry Connick, Jr how to play, he recorded the last album to ever be laid down in East Germany, went to high school with the Neville Brothers and Allen Touissant. Classically trained pianist, too! That Für Elise he plays at the JGB show is such a shocker to hear.
I’m going to watch Bayou Maharajah the next chance I get.
Spinning an absolute banger of a prog record this snowy morning: One of a Kind by Bruford. Incredible lineup here, with Bill Bruford on drums obviously, but also Allan Holdsworth on guitar (one of Zappa’s favorite guitarists, which really says something), Jeff Berlin on bass (underrated), and Canterbury scene stalwart Dave Stewart (Hatfield & the North, National Health, et al) on keys.
A couple of my favorite tracks:
Supertramp - Crime of the Century. I’ve had lots of Supertramp on lately. Whole album is good but the title track is magical.
Pete Townshend - All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes. My favorite of his solo records, eyebrow raising title aside. First side in particular is flawless.
Radiohead - Amnesiac. Not my favorite Radiohead album and it doesn’t flow as well as its sister Kid A but a few of my favorite tracks are on there.
Spinning the FOV compilation from the record fair today. Bringing back lots of sunny memories on a cold and cloudy day here.
Last night I saw King Buffalo & All Them Witches, hell of a show! Been spinning my King Buffalo records in preparation but All Them Witches was the main band, blew me away. Lots of super cool ambient psychedelic (almost Floyd or Phish-like) parts then a hard turn into heavy psych riffs. Really good stuff, I think any Gizzard fans would enjoy!
50th anniversary edition of ‘Wish You Were Here’ drops today.
For the PF experts on the board – is this worth a listen for a more casual PF fan? Anything notable?
Contains the original 1975 album + 9 bonus tracks
Bonus tracks consist of:
9 studio rarities
6 of which have never been released in any way
- 4 of these newly mixed by James Guthrie, 2 are original studio mixes
More Floyd is always worth a listen in my book!
Some of it has already been released but the new stuff is really good. The new Shine On mix, The Machine Song and the pedal steel version of the title track in particular stand out. The new mix of the old Mike Millard Los Angeles tape is pretty cool too. Haven’t compared it to my copy of that bootleg yet but it sounds a lot clearer.
Appreciate the recommendation, thanks a ton!
Figured someone would be all over this ![]()
The Shine On Parts 1-9 mix is the definitely the highlight for me! Haven’t got round to listening to the live stuff yet but very excited about that
Thanks to Fields of Vision:
They play in my city coming February, guess I’m going to see them live then.
Right now:
Going to see them this Monday.
Only problem with them, too few albums released so far.
