Watcha Watchin? (Movies, TV etc.)

I liked Fight Club but there’s films that do everything it shoots for much better.

I’m a bit out of touch with movies from like 2012 onwards, but I really think Fight Club is the best novel adaption I’ve seen. Absolute top-tier mixing of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person perspectives with the narration and internal monologue and everything else to bring dimensions that movies typically miss from books.

There was a cum town reference LMAO?!?!

Holy Mountain was definitely one I considered bringing up; the rebirth ritual scene is super similar to the live action bit in the Invisible Face video.
ntm this Nonagon-esque symbol popping up

@phreakbrain @cwar

I watched The Holy Mountain and woah, I was prepared for a lot but not for that.
Very transgressive in a way that would bother pretty much anyone, but I’m very glad I’ve seen it now. What a trip! Every scene was a marvel just imagining what it must have taken to make it.

def a sign for me to watch it now!! It’s been on my watchlist for a while. Seeing the connection between it and nonagon hypes me up.

Buckle up! If I’m publicly advocating for people to watch this I do want to make sure I add that there is lots of heavy shit in it that would not fly today. It was boundary-pushing even in Mexico in the early 70s and its clear why, absolutely wild mix of animals, children, drugs, excrement, and near constant full-frontal nudity. As far as I have read it wasn’t actually nefarious BTS, and aside from a few pangs through the process it has left me feeling very refreshed and good.

When are you putting together movie club then, @phreakbrain :joy:

I’d probably struggle to find the time to fit a feature length movie in every week, but this is a good idea!
Might be tricky to navigate with streaming services/whats available for everyone though.
Come to think of it, that’s probably why I’ve fallen out of touch with movies since the take-over of streaming.
They’re all pretty evil, but at least music streaming platforms aren’t fundamentally based on competing with exclusivity, 99.9% of everything is easily available everywhere.

Night of the Hunter is a true classic

Have you seen the new Roald Dahl shorts he’s just put out? The two I’ve watched are very simple but pretty neat.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who wasn’t really a fan of it. Maybe it’s just like really not what I was expecting. I also kind of felt like it seemed a bit pretentious. I liked the idea, it just was a little too messy like it felt like he was trying a bit too hard and the messages got lost in the process. Idk doesn’t help I was watching it after a phish show coming down from a dose .
Loved little alien dude he was a vibe. The actors were great and I loved some scenes. It’s a fun movie. It’s just probably wouldn’t choose to watch it over other Wes Anderson movies. Definitely not the worse tho. I like this one more than French Dispatch

I also kind of find it funny you say his most half assed work when this one had got a ton of promotion on it.

I stumbled upon a video of Stobe the Hobo hopping freight trains, documenting a trip from Vancouver to Toronto. He’s got all kinds of videos criss-crossing North America free-riding on trains, even at times sneaking into the engine cars. I’ve really enjoyed riding along with him, but sure was sad to learn about his tragic end.

Catching up on Ahsoka right now. It’s no Andor but it’s one of the better SW shows Disney has put out IMO.

That sounds great !!!

They don’t make movie covers like they used to and it’s a shame

Great movie. Writing is brilliant and Tom Hanks has a classic scene.

Forgot to mention I managed to catch this (stop making sense) in theaters a while back. Was well worth it. Hopefully you get lucky with a future blueray release or something.

Beautiful!!!

So the prompt for this is what if Jason Alexander was in Death Grips?

Very nice! Going to be able to attend?
