Gorillaz - The Mountain. Just started listening but it feels like a spiritual successor to Plastic Beach. Pretty good so far.

Forgot this was coming, thanks for the reminder!
Oh man “spiritual successor to Plastic Beach” is reason to get very excited, I hear where you’re coming from on this, Timeland.
Big fan of Demon Days thru Plastic Beach, but they’ve been wildly inconsistent from then on imo. Here’s to hoping the rest of the new one can hang with the single.
New Sturgil Simpson, sleazy country disco rock. So good! Similar to Sound and Fury.

^ with Deltron 3030
Probably not going to be on my dance card for 2026 shows, but the addition of Deltron 3030 is very appealing.
Don’t forget, Del did the rap in Clint Eastwood!!
Got a ticket for Montreal this morning, so pumped, been listening to these guys since their first album and first time seeing them.
Oh yeah that’s right!
Gotta think he’ll come out for Clint Eastwood; wonder if he’ll contribute any additional rap verses for other parts of the Gorillaz set like all the stuff Black Thought contributed to on the new one. Hope the Montreal show is great!
The Scythe - STRICTLY 4 THE SCYTHE. Fun homage to southern hip hop from Denzel Curry’s new collective.
Various - HELP(2). Sequel to the 1995 charity release The Help Album with an incredible lineup of musicians.
Various - Music For Iran Vol. 4. Another good compilation with money going to a good cause.
Brother Younger - Metal Horse. This is Allen from Heaps Keen’s new album!
New Modest Mouse track!
OSees EP drop!
Super psyched to see them at Caverns this summer!
Double LP from MIKE and Earl Sweatshirt coming
Oh wow, this is great!
For whatever reason Damaged Bug hasn’t been on my radar — gonna dive into this and the rest of the discog.
Me too! I only saw it because Osees sent a message through Bandcamp about it. I haven’t heard any of the previous albums. Eating good this weekend!!
I absolutely love this new album. Totally hooked on it. I’ve probably listened to it half a dozen times already.
What’s up with reddit turning on these guys? Saw some hostile reactions to this KEXP session.
I haven’t been on reddit really at all in the last six months, I wouldn’t know.
To be honest though, hearing them live is much more of an experience and wall of sound. Here, you hear more of the “pysch rock band with an orchestra” that one of the members talks about in the interview. The production on MEGAGONG is lush (I have a CD I listen to in my car all the time lol) and flows well together as an album experience rather than individual songs. I could see people jumping in and not liking this, the build from album start to finish is an essential part of the experience for me. Also in the KEXP comments, there are alot of comparisons to other bands instead of what makes their sound unique. They cover such a wide range of sounds, I know there are easy comparisons but they play such a large breadth and that can lead the the “Gizz Effect”: jack of all trades, master of none.
They talk about a “new pallette” and new motifs for upcoming albums, I’ll think they’ll really grow into their own sound after that.
