The Silver Cord

Fiiiiiinally listening to the Extended Mixes. This is like if someone planted a Gizz seed in a techno album, and the mycelial growth invaded every cell.

Totally epic. Love all the mythology references. It’s a warped twin of Petro just like Theia is a warped twin of Earth. The house themes of destruction-death-reincarnation-cosmic consciousness continue to amaze.

I love how Poly references Gondwanaland, the supercontinent lost to time. Then six years later Gizz goes even further back to reference Theia and ponder what it means to be destroyed and reborn. Bodies and planets and gods and dragons and stars and photons. I fucking love this band.

You should write a piece about this album!

That would be awesome! All the mythology references can be a lot to unpack; having a handy reference for that would be great!

you can check KGLW.net’s interview archive: Pages / Interviews / - KGLW.net

I do think it was a natural evolution that somewhat combines the electronic aspects of BF3K with the improvisational aspects of IDPLML. The improvisational origins are discussed in several of the interviews I think, and is also evident when they play these songs live. The evolution might also make more sense if you listen to a lot of live Gizz from 2023. The first time they started the extended synth jams on stage was Melbourne 2023: 2023-02-25 Northcote Theatre Naarm (Melbourne), VIC, Australia King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - KGLW.net

The Slow Jam 1 → Sense, Shanghai in the below video is quickly becoming legendary, well at least to me and many others obsessed with live Gizz. Although the synth jams don’t start until Sense and really get nuts during Shanghai. Listen to this and some of the other multi-synth live jams from last year and I think The Silver Cord might make a bit more sense, no pun intended.
