If there is such a thing as highly undervalued artists, Link Wray was one of them. His impact on modern rock music was huge and he was the first one to bring that punk attitude onto the stage.

I don’t think this is a very popular Sakamoto album but it’s prob my fav behind Thousand Knives. The minimalist and brutal rhythm combined with silky 80s synths and Blade Runner vocal samples is nothing but genius at work.

lots of “industry plant” slants around this group, but I’m gonna enjoy the hell out of this catchy bit while the gettin’s good

I get being exasperated at a group blowing up with their first single after buying a huge publicist, but ‘industry plant’ never made sense to me. Its not like their corporate support is a secret.

Heard this on a ski edit couple years back. No idea what he’s saying…don’t really care

The lyrics are (deepl translation)

On the bypass

Just outside the walls of our city

Stands a mental hospital

The likes of which no one has ever seen

It has the capacity

Of all the shopping centers in the city

If your nerves get the better of you

You’ll be driven even crazier

Hey, hey, hey, I was the Golden Horseman

Hey, hey, hey, I’m a child of this city

Hey, hey, hey I was so high on the ladder

But then I fell off, yes then I fell off

On my ride to the clinic

I saw the lights of the city once more

They burned like fire in my eyes

I felt lonely and infinitely limp

Hey, hey, hey, I was the Golden Rider

Hey, hey, hey, I’m a child of this city

Hey, hey, hey I was so high on the ladder

But then I fell off, yes then I fell off

Hey, hey, hey, I was the Golden Horseman

Hey, hey, hey I’m a child of this city

Hey, hey, hey I was so high on the ladder

But then I fell off, yes then I fell off

Safety distress signals

Life-threatening schizophrenia

New treatment centers

Never tackle the real causes

Hey, hey, hey I was the Golden Rider

Hey, hey, hey I’m a child of this city

Hey, hey, hey I was so high on the ladder

But then I fell off, yeah then I fell off

Just mentioned The Hu in a different thread and remembered this song:

It’s one of their slower paced songs and so beautiful. This version features female vocals by guest singer Laura “LP” Pergolizzi.

I also love the live version. This must be one of the first times it was performed on stage, lucky audience :

You can’t other than chant along to it until you realize “boy, you really need A LOT of breath to do this”.
