Mis-heard Gizz lyrics: whatcha' got?

Hahaha, the question marks really set it off.

I forgot first time I heard The Dripping Tap at the first “left the tap on” part I thought it was:

Let the devil swamp it out on the sink
Let the devil and throw it in
Let the devil blanks hot over my skin
Let the devil wish I learned how to swim

I can’t figure out if this is mis-heard, or if it’s just Stu changing things later, but – the song archive says that this line in Magenta Mountain is:

“I see a flash of purple stone closing in.” …

but I’m hearing “purple stone [or smoke] enveloping”, and I can’t figure out how you’d sing “closing in” as four syllables/beats. Anybody know for sure?

huh. On the studio version I hear “…powerful thing, I see a flash of purple stone enveloping” and the live Timeland performance I hear “…powerful thing, a flash of purple smoke or stone envelopes me”

Yeah, either “enveloping” or “envelopes me” fits, but it’s hard to make “closing in” fit.

The lyrics on Bandcamp do match what we have on the site so it seems those are the “official” lyrics

Give it a few years, and they’ll probably change it a few more times.

Just checked and it matches the printed lyrics on the inner sleeve of Omnium as well.

I don’t know if this counts as mis-heard or not, but I realized I had been singing (mumbling) along to Crumbling Castle, saying “I don’t want to be visible,” when the official lyrics say “invisible.” I think I originally heard it as “visible” (still do, really), and a lot of times not wanting to be visible is relatable.

I, um, see what you did there.

we should ask Gregory if that’s right or not.

New Hampshire is pretty baffling, too, from what I hear.

I mean, have you ever tried to eat a lava-roasted potato?

I have a terrible feeling that I’m going to be singing “potato” from now on…

Sounds dank.

Was writing something up about The Grim Reaper the other day and realized I’d been singing the wrong lyrics for years!

I’d been hearing “rotting flesh odorous or the rest / the grim reaper cashes the check / rotting flesh odorous or the rest / the grim reaper comes to collect his debt”

…which seems like a perfectly appropriate demand for a debt-collecting grim reaper!
