2024 North American Tour Highlights

I wanted to create a thread where we can link, discuss, and gush over the highlights of this ongoing NA tour. I have only been able to watch bits and pieces of the tour on youtube yet, but from what I’ve seen and read about, there is plenty to be effusive about.

I’ll start:

FAFYL in Boston
Dripping Tap with 46&2 teases in Portland, ME

What else has been transcendent so far, y’all?!

This tour has been blowing my mind. They are so comfortable and loose with the material this time around, any and every song is grounds for improvising it seems. My attended highlights so far are the following;

8.15: Dripping Tap, Antarctica, Ice V > The River, Fourth Colour, Gaia

8.16: Daily Blues through Work this Time (so many highlights in there, especially the People Vultures), Mind Fuzz Suite, Venusian 2, Straws in the Wind, All is Known → Doom City, bestie singing Nuclear Fusion, Rattlesnake

8.17: Hot Water through Bitter Boogie, Silhouette, Hot Wax, Dragon > Great Chain, Motor Spirit, Slow Jam I, MOTU Suite, AIIH (Stopping myself because it’s the whole show tbh)

8.19: Gondii, Change, and Especially Extinction, Flight b741 title track debut, Wah Wah, Hypertension, Float Along

8.20 Theia → TSC, Rats in the Sky, Iron Lung, Trapdoor, Tap

This is an awesome thread, the site has this chart of notable versions of songs Jams / Artist / 1 - KGLW.net

This thread seems like a great place to nominate your favorites!

Honestly the main notables for this tour so far imo should be DC Fourth Colour, NYC Doom City, Boston Float Along, and probably ME Tap

The River in DC was so good. A straight flowing river that got very intense. It wasn’t spacy like Chicago; instead, it was heavy and worked into a frenzy kind of like FAFYL at PALP.

Straws on the 16th saw Ambrose working through some emotions at the loss of his friend (Bobby?) a couple weeks prior. You could really see how affected he was. Powerful version.

Ambrose’s gator surf during Billabong and Stu’s trip to the river during Tap have got to be seen as notable versions.

So many highlights, but how about what hasn’t been played yet this tour:

Detroit 8/23/24

That Swan Song/Set synth jam from Chicago (9/1/24) was absolutely incredible, they’re really dialing that in and taking the table portion to new levels.

Felt like the whole crowd was tranced after that, and then to pull out that Head On, unreal.

The end of Philly was sick, best techno session to date imo (haven’t heard CHI) yet.

Boogieman>Hypertension ASH was balls to the walls

You Could Be Your Silhouette → Iron Lung from Chicago is so subtle and patient. If Amby brought the sax in during that transition I’d be squarely in a Marsalis Eyes of the World; dead-esque. Would love to hear more similar segues of any songs like this.
