Who is Nathan? (A Gear Rundown)

Where did Nathan come from?

What does he do?

Nathan is the synth table, they named him at the Oklahoma City show and it seems to have stuck.

lol I thought it was a new band member

I just call that the stem table

I had to figure it out too, since "stu, joey and luke got escorted " off stage by Nathan.

I was actually thinking of creating a thread to discuss the many pieces of Nathan. Sort of a “rig rundown” if you will. Any other gearheads out there wanna take a stab at it… there’s a lot! And he’s ever growing. I even noticed a different setup on leg 2 this year

@onceillusion I’ve noticed a few differences leg 1 → leg 2 as well. For one, Amby had a Moog Sirin on the table for leg 1, which is no longer there.

That would be awesome! I can’t help IDing the gear but would love to read a rundown

“Who is Nathan? …and what is he made of??”

Admins, does it make sense to put this somewhere else? Or shall we let 'er rip here?

for some reason I keep pronouncing it in my head as Not Han

Up to you, you might get more engagement in a dedicated thread with a title that mentions the project though.

Would love to see Nathan eventually become a permanent fixture from the get-go so the guys can go back and forth at will and experiment with every song.

This is the future…

Would love to see Nathan as some sort of permanent fixture as well. Hard to see him coming back for the orchestral shows next summer though. Wonder if Nathan’ll make it to Field of Vision…

I feel like nathan will have his own zipcode at FOV

To start…

Stu’s is running the head of the beast through this: Live15 for Ableton Live - Yaeltex

He seems to be primarily conducting most of the time, using the Live15 to mix in everyone’s individual parts and hit the drops. He’s making a lot of eye contact to keep the CavsClock synced. The little white keyboard is often used as a vocoder and looks to be part of the rack in front of him. I think I’ve seen him play some melodies off it?

There seems to have been a big upgrade since leg 1.

Currently there’s at least four euro racks on stage. I can’t fathom how everyone is able to keep track of the sounds they are producing. I assume each part is distinct enough, and contained within its own Eurorack, to make it a bit simpler. I also wonder if their monitor feed is different than the stage output or if they are just sending it live?

I know Lucas used to be using a Moog Minotaur but looks like he may have switched it out for yet another modular rack

A wonderful nerd on Modular Grid posted Joey’s leg 1 rack

side note: TBH I think “Who is Nathan” is a perfect name for this discussion lol

Also gone from Luke’s area on leg 2 is the Boss RC-505 looper

Would be interesting to look at that they were running in October 2022 and 2023 to see how it developed
