Did not know any of that. Thanks for the explanation!
The Band - Music From Big Pink. R.I.P. Garth Hudson. It feels like I grow to love this music more and more every year.
That’s a great bit of info there ! Cool! I am excited to listen to that Dr John album now as well.
You would think bonnaroo would have run with that connection a bit more publicly or in terms of advertising, branding ( not that they need that now ). Fascinating !
Dang… did Garth pass? Chest Fever is excellent, btw.
Not an album, but just a fabulously psychedelic show front to back concluding with a nod to David Lynch on Twin Peaks Theme > Eyes of the World > Twin Peaks Theme

It’s a solid listen. Funky and downhome. (A plus is that old school vinyl versions have a metallic cover, like Silver Cord.)
BTW, every time I scroll through the forum and see your avatar I think it’s Axl Rose.
Day off! Got up at 5 to feed the dog and get some records spinning. Here’s what we heard:
Milford Graves - Babi
Gum / Ambrose - Ill Times
Black Sabbath - Vol. 4
Finally saw A Complete Unknown last week and have been listening to a lot of my favorite Dylan albums. I love them all, but after seeing the film I keep reaching for Bringing It All Back Home. I even had my students discuss the line from “It’s All Right Ma” that goes “He not busy being born is busy dying.”
This evening I’m marking what would have been the late great Derek Bailey’s 95th birthday with possibly the most unusual album in his discography, which for him is really saying something:
I discovered this band by chance, stumbled over Wilko Johnson in some other context, I think The Stranglers, and searched for what he did during his career. His first band was this one.
I am loving the new Mogwai album. I have not listened to them in years but this album seems like a perfect way to jump back into their work.
Mogwai is a band I’ve always heard about but never spent any real time with. I couldn’t even name one song or album. I think I’ll check this out!
First spin of the morning of The Magic City by Sun Ra:
Next up, Big Star - Radio City
Really weird. I just played this maybe 2 weeks ago. I read a book called The WIRE Primers and one of the subjects was Bailey. They highly recommended this album and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
If you like yourself some hard oldschool blues rock, this one is perfect for you:
Only just diving into their discography, looking forward to it.
Does a partial album count? I’ve been jamming the new-ish Frankie and the Witch Fingers singles HARD. Sounds like the new album is shaping up well after Data Doom.
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Visions of the Emerald Beyond
i’ve been hesitant to post in this thread for two reasons. one, i pretty much only listen to king gizz. and two, heavy music doesn’t seem to come up in conversation very often here.
this is the type of music i’m into. to most, it’s probably borderline un-listenable. but if you like to count while you blow-out your eardrums, this band is for you!
i encourage you to give ‘xoxoy’ a spin, it really turns a corner just past the minute mark and takes you for a ride.
the first time i heard car bomb was when they opened for the dillinger escape plan during their farewell tour in 2016. i was mesmerized.
elliot hoffman is an incredible drummer. these guys play so tight live. all without a click!!
(fun fact: the show was at club metronome in burlington, vermont. club metronome is the upstairs venue space at nectars; perhaps some of you know nectars from phish lore.)
come to find out, car bomb was started as a side project by members of a ny hardcore band called ‘neck’. neck was a band i was into in the late nineties and honestly hadn’t thought about since. wild!
during the rare moment i’m not listening to gizz, i’m spinning loud music like car bomb. are there any other people who came here from the heavy music scene? or am i alone? if there’s interest, i’m happy to keep sharing obscure, progressive-metal and early hardcore bands. gizz is, after all, at least partially inspired by heavy music.
