What album are you listening to right now?

Been going through the Aadam Jacobs Collection on the Internet Archive. He taped over 10,000 shows in Chicago from the ‘80s onward including (but not limited to) Nirvana, R.E.M., Animal Collective, Sonic Youth, Neutral Milk Hotel, Slint, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, The Breeders, Minutemen, and Husker Du. There’s about a quarter of the tapes online now with more coming, many of which have never been heard before.

Check out the Phish show from Lounge Ax on 1990-11-09!

This has been all over my newsfeed the last week or so – super cool.

I’ve been giving a listen to some of these as well; mostly the 80s punk stuff, Replacements/Minutemen/Husker. Need to listen to that Nirvana show at some point. So much good stuff.

The album that I have been listening to the most lately is the surprise release Neurosis album, An Undying Love for a Burning World. It has been rejuvenating for me that a band I have loved for 35+ years was able to shed the bad actions of one former member and create such a stunning work as an re- invigorated unit.

I keep coming back to Damaged Bug, ZUZAX. It just seems like exactly what I need a lot of the time.

Digging on today’s flea market purchase: Brand X - Livestock…

SML - How You Been

Colour Haze - Tempel

Recently discovered this group from Germany. Reminds me of Kyuss a bit, though perhaps a bit more psychedelic.

Finally gave the full album a go today as well… loving the Tropicalia vibes!

They absolutely nailed the vibe of the album with the cover photo.

This is going to get a lot of play during the day while I’m at work.

Candiru is still the one that stands out to me the most after the first listen; IMO that was well a chosen lead single.

Yeah it’s a really pleasant and well-done album. Nothing mind-blowing or groundbreaking, just really solid all the way through. Lots of cool influences to enjoy as well. Candiru gives me major Can vibes and given his love for their drummer, Jaki Liebezeit, it makes total sense.

Ah! Great comparison to Can, totally agree. I was trying to put my finger on where that hypnotic feel to the song and I totally see the Can comparison there.

Also gotta say the new CAVS vinyl pressing is sick, no label on either side, just a screen print on the center of side A, never seen that. Also feels super heavy, maybe 200g? Sound is fantastic, and what a fun album!

I wondered if it was pressed at the plant that did the last Shellac record. It is in the Netherlands maybe? They use recycled PVC and no labels, supposed to much more environmentally friendly than standard vinyl. Shellac’s record was delayed 2 years while waiting for the process to meet their specifications.

I think it was this plant:

Spiritualized - Pure Phase

Takes me back!

The Who - The Who Sell Out. Been listening to a lot of Who lately. First side is perfect, second side falls apart a bit. Still really like this one though. (Also how did they release this song in 1967?)

New music from John Dwyer? I’m listening.

Some power electronics by Aktion Noor to brighten your day.

Stumbled across this the other day. They opened for KGLW in Vienna it looks like.

Interpreting “album I’m listening to” a bit loosely here, but…

Ever since the rave tour, I just can’t stop coming back to the sequence of Magenta → Sense → Kepler from night 2 of London/Brixton. Its just the best.

Each song stands tall on its own, but when paired together… ::exhales with a low whistle::… its some absolutely sublime setcraft that just keeps building patiently until the set wraps. So good they just plain skipped The Silver Cord that was on the written setlist as the closer.

To my ears, no other 50-minute stretch of the rave show rises to these heights. Its the first place I’d send anyone who is interested to dive into the table sets.

Dancin’ is good for ya……

I shouldn’t judge by the cover, but this looks like something I need to check out.
