Started watching this with my girlfriend tonight and I have been barely holding back my tears since it started - which is odd because as a non-american, I never grew up with Mr. Rogers. Something about his message is profoundly universal and direly necessary in the world, especially today. Wonderful acting by Tom Hanks as usual and everyone is coming straight out of the gates. Go watch it if you’re in need of a good dose of compassion, to give or take; it’s ALL good.

if this mr Rogers kick keeps on going I’ll check it out on the way!! obsession is good for ya :yum:

this movie gets more underrated every time I watch it.

I don’t dislike S2 and S4 as much as a lot of people seem to, but yes there is really something special about S1. S3 flew under the radar a bit but I think it was the second best and very solid all round. I’ve just recently re-watched S1 and I’d still call it the best season of any TV show ever.
I nearly didn’t give it the chance when it came out because of the two movie star leads who I thought were pretty washed up at the time, but they’re both unrecognisable in stunning performances. Aside from that, the show is incredibly gritty, and refreshingly produced in a way that makes everything since look like it was slapped together for streaming services. Excellent soundtrack too.

Maybe try S3 and if you like it go back to 2? They’re all totally distinct so it doesn’t matter.
S2 was over-ambitious (also leading to several very impactful moments) and tried to mix up the formula with more primary characters and a faster burning plot. S3 winds all that back to more of a S1 structure.

I burned out of the original TV series, is this standalone or are you meant to have seen everything else first?

lol that’s the issue I had, 10-15 episodes in and they were just adding more and more extremely juvenile characters while Shinji was still whining about everything as much as ever.
The setting and the lore fascinate me and I still wish it had clicked more, so I might give this a shot.

I’m really thinking about catching End Of Eva rerelease because even though the series ending let me down a bit the movie was such a worthy cluterf*ck of an ending I was craving and it’s stuck with me for years after.

Also I watched Dune Part Two in theaters yesterday. I was a big fan of the first movie and what I read of the book so seeing the big climax was very cathartic and I have zero notes. My only regret is not watching it in imax, I was in a smaller showing but even then our seats shook and it felt like the ground beneath my feet was moving at times too it was so epic and breathtaking.

I’m behind on this thread but @phreakbrain what do you have against Poor Things? :frowning: I thought it was brilliant, one of my favorite films of the last few years.

I’ll also say my 4 change very frequently

If you haven’t seen Metropolis even based on other criteria, that’s got to be the big one.

Laurel and Hardy of course. Classics.

Finished Fallout season 1. It was excellent. At times hilarious, heartfelt and gut renchingly twisted, often in the same scenes. I’m not a gamer, so wasn’t sure going in as most movies and shows based on games are a disappointment.

This performance is pretty legendary. I haven’t seen it in like decades and had to skip ahead to Golden Age and Lost Cause first.

Sitting down about to watch Megalopolis. Wish me luck.

Edit: fixed it to correct but worse movie

Yeah I saw Megalopolis last week. I’d honestly say it’s the worst film I’ve seen in a theatre, and that’s a list that includes The Room; I at least had fun watching that, but Megalopolis was just really disappointing. The ā€˜Neil Breen with a budget’ jokes I’ve seen online are surprisingly apt.

Still, as bad as I thought it was, I’d still happily go see a weird, batshit film like that again over generic franchise sequel #29 any day of the week.
