thread about Vinyl

How’d this clean-up for you?

I cleaned it up pretty quick and I thought it went fine. I’m going to go over it more thoroughly soon. Happy with it for what I paid. Cover (more so the shrink wrap) is worse than the vinyl itself.

I hate shrink and always remove. I’m sure I’m alarming purists out there, but the stuff just attracts dust and grime.

Went to Barnes and Noble for vinyl (yuck) but only because they have a sale including $5 records. I didn’t get anything for that price but I did manage to grab a copy of the Grateful Dead’s Reckoning on sale for $20 (was originally $46). Also grabbed a CD/Blu-Ray combo of Atom Heart Mother but that’s beyond the scope of the vinyl thread.

I grabbed the $20 Without a Net from the B&N website. Yeah, YUCK, but no regrets. Pressing sounds great too.

Happy RSD, and good luck out there!

I had the absolute worst luck today. Got there an hour after doors expecting some stuff but everything I wanted was gone. The three Pink Floyd-related releases and the Frankie and the Witch Fingers KEXP session got sold. They must have went quick because nobody else had them either. Keeping my eyes on Discogs to see if any stores list them. I don’t want to buy from a reseller.

Ended up getting a copy of Lou Reed’s Berlin though so I’m happy about that. Currently have WXRT on. They’re doing all vinyl album sides until midnight for RSD. Give it a listen.

Sorry to hear that man. RSD is getting harder and harder. If it makes you feel any better, today I went to three RSD shops and didn’t see any of the Floyd stuff. I managed to get everything on my list except Jeff Bridges and Pharaoh Sanders. Hoping to find both them online tomorrow morning.

Glad you found your picks! Someone I know was able to find and grab the Gilmour for me so that’s good at least. Stores start selling online at 7 tomorrow so I’ll keep an eye on that.

Plaid Room Records has a ton of RSD stock up. https://www.plaidroomrecords.com/

I’ve found success at Nail City in the past as well. Nail City Record (they had the Gandalf release last year when everyone else was out!)

My daughter started collecting a few years ago when she was about 16. A friend of mine that was a DJ in the 70’s gifted her a box to get started but so far I’ve given her first pressings of Wish you were here, Dark side, Animals and The Wall. (All pretty spendy)
My first new vinyl in decades was 12 Bar and Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava.
I’ve got my grandfather’s Dual turntable (1970ish)
and his pioneer receiver with a pair of Bose bookcase speakers.
The sound is amazing! Glad I hung on to my dad’s Smothers Bros record collection!

Let me know how the 13th floor elevators live album sounds. I’m eying a copy.

It’s certainly not an audiophile production but sounds fine for the era. Decent instrument separation but a little boomy overall. I’d give it a 7.75 out of 10 for sound quality. (The performance is 10/10–band is on fire, even with that damned jug noise all over everything.)
