I know your wallets won’t thank me, but for the Vinyl lovers I’d appreciate you checking out and considering my first KGLW bootleg Vinyl campaign project Infest The Red Rocks Nest

Great article about the enshittification happening over at Discogs.

If you want an idea of just how bad it’s gotten, I sold a record there for €215 including shipping just a few days ago. With the Discogs fee and Paypal fee, that went down to around 180 (the grey amounts you see next to the prices in the screencap are just the Discogs fees, Paypal took another 16 quid on top of that) It was sold to someone else in Europe, so there would be even more fees and taxes if it was an international transaction. That’s not sustainable. Worst of all, Discogs forces everyone to use PayPal now, who have horrendous exchange rates, so there’s no way to avoid any of those fees.

I no longer sell on Discogs, only Ebay. Things seem to sell faster and the fees, while still not great, aren’t as steep. I buy a little on Discogs, but only if it’s something I think I’ll never find in person.

oops

2 posts were split to a new topic: p(doom) Records

And Flightless is back with new prod!

https://flightlessrecords.com/?syclid=b4478bde-a5df-400c-97e2-9a2855a840df

Certainly looks like a bit of a reset, the only item available in the whole store is this new O.R.B album, and they have a new Port Melbourne address.
Something just feels right putting in a Flightless Records order. Not to mention it’s about $5 AUD cheaper for a single LP + freight than p(doom).

Bought a record of Zenobia Shrine music for 50 cents today. It’s a mix of different musics, some vocal chanting, some dixieland, some bagpipe tunes, but most fascinating of all is what’s called the “oriental band” (sigh, that name). It’s microtonal! Sounds a lot like the FMB title track and even has, I shit you not, a “Streets of Cairo” tease.

Last night I found a sanely-priced OG copy of Carson’s Blown. Now the long wait as it ships to the US from Australia.

On Tuesday I traded in a bunch of stuff I never listen to and put the store credit toward a VG/VG+ DSOTM '79 MoFi.

The Discogs reviews hype the ever-loving hell out of this one and I can’t disagree. Sounds pretty damn incredible.

Hit a new-to-me shop yesterday, one that I will definitely be back to. Grabbed original copies of the following:

Kevin Ayers - Bananamour (love this one)
John Cale - Helen of Try (new to me, but it’s got Eno and Phil Collins)
Tom Fogerty - Excalibur (with what would become the Jerry Garcia band–including Jerry!–as backing band)
Magma - Inhedits (various live recordings)

I did a good job of being a good boy. This shop had LOTS of desirable and expensive records. The one that really tempted me was a copy of Neil Young’s Sleeps With Angels.

Hello, new guy here - I suppose this is a good thread to start out in. Vinyl enthusiast, just completed the Gizz studio album collection this week and cautiously treading into official bootlegger waters :grimacing:
