Benn digging on this the last couple days. The way it was described to me is pretty accurate:
“7 piece psychedelic group with jazz/classical backgrounds. 2-3 drummers, horns, etc. I hear King Gizz, Osees, Tame Impala, etc in their sound. It’s tightly arranged and they aren’t afraid to get weird or punch you with some occasional metal.”
Just gave a first listen to Nine Inch Nails’ soundtrack to the new Tron - Ares movie. Its sick! Vintage NiN. Mostly instrumentals, but a few with some signature Reznor vocals. Lots of grimy, industrial grooves.
I thought Daft Punk doing the soundtrack to the previous Tron reboot was cool. This is an even better listen!
If you’re into or interested in Ethio-Jazz you gotta hear this new Mulatu Astatke release. It’s contemporary takes on his classics and it’s very fresh.
I’m really enjoying it. The Slow Rush had a couple of fun singles but overall it has left me feeling it was trying too hard to be this super meaningful high concept Pink Floyd type project, when maybe that wasn’t where Kevin was at, and I just haven’t enjoyed revisiting it.
Deadbeat is way more creative and personal and I think he executed the rave idea really well.
Media pushing the narrative that Hip-hop is dying and Danny Brown comes out with a total reinvention and his best, most experimental album in over a decade. Just finished my first listen and Stardust really impressed me.
This got posted a few weeks ago and I’ve been geeking out pretty hard on it. Been a fan of these guys for a while but they’ve really stepped up their game on this one.
