So I was walking in London near Tottenham Court Rd, going over towards Rough Trade records, and spotted that unmistakable bleached hair and moustache ordering in a coffee shop. Went in, bought a (quite delicious) croissant, and yup, there was Cookie. It was basically the “Smoothie Trey” moment (IYKYK).
“…Cookie?”
“Yeah?”
“Hey man, I’ve really enjoyed the synth sets, how’s it feel to have a few under your belt?”
“Pretty great, you over on holiday?”
“Yeah, I’m lucky to have a wife that lets me come on these adventures to see your shows”
“Right on”
“Looking forward to your Royal Albert show. Thanks for making the music you make, see you tomorrow! ”
“Thanks, cheers mate!”
And I went on my way. Any longer and I would have lost my cool and fanned out on him, lol. Walked around the corner, called my best friend, and fanned out to them instead, ha.
I’ve never had a chance to meet one of my musical heroes and express some gratitude. It felt SO good to have an opportunity to do that. And the crazy thing is, I never would have been walking at that location if I hadn’t made a stupid mistake about visiting a shop that ended up being closed on Mondays. The world works in a mysterious and wonderful Way.

That’s so awesome, I met Cookie & Amby on Hydra in Greece this summer, such a chill guy!

Totally, I wish I had been able to be more chill myself and chat him up a bit more tbh! It totally caught me off guard. I’ve had several “hey is that _______?!?!?” moments before, but this was the first one where it actually was the person I thought it was at first glance.

That’s awesome. Sounds like what I’d expect. You must be having an amazing time over there
1000% my friend. Absolutely epic.
Going in I was worried my expectations were too high but they’ve been exceeded in every way, musically and beyond. And I was nervous about a lot of stuff that I’d never done before, too.
When you get to a point in life when you have the autonomy to do so, be sure to make space for grand adventures that get you out of your comfort zone a bit. Those are the ones that stick with you all your life.

Cookie & Joey walked past me in a hotel lobby and I froze

then Stu and all I could manage wast a fistbump
Oh man I totally would have froze if it were Joey or Stu, too. Glad I’m not the only one who gets a bit starstruck. I mean, they put their pants on one leg at a time just like you and I. But, yeah…
