Please Play Northern California on a Weekend

I have been seeing King Gizzard since 2016, and it’s always been a bit of a headscratcher why more of my local music friends aren’t as obsessed with the band as I am. I was talking to some of them the other day and people were lamenting the fact that the only Bay Area show this year is on a Monday at the Frost. The most recent Northern California show was Oct 2022 at the Greek, which was a Sunday. I just looked back at all of the shows I’ve seen in Northern California, and only one of them has been on a Friday or Saturday, the June 2018 show at the Warfield. The other 11 NorCal shows they have played since May 2016 have all been Sunday to Thursday.

I’ll be there regardless of the day of the week, but boy they could win over so many news fans in the Bay Area by blowing up the Fox in Oakland on a Friday and Saturday. I hope that this happens next year. We are overdue.

Saw 3 more Central Coast/Northern California shows this week, and not one of them on a weekend. Obviously I’ll travel to see them, but the last 10 central/northern California shows they have played (stretching back to June 2018) have all been Sunday to Thursday. And among the Bay Area shows dating back to 2022, they have played some of the smallest venues that they have played anywhere: GundBund, Petaluma, Bimbo’s, and now Regency. I understand they do their own thing and I can respect that. But frankly I think it’s hurting them a little with local fans. I had a bunch of friends who would have gone to the Frost if it was on a weekend but they couldn’t make it on Monday. More friends shut out for Regency, and many friends shut out for Bimbo’s. And now they have announced a bunch of shows for next year, and none of them are within 500 miles of SF. The closest is San Diego, and that’s on a Monday. Hopefully they add a show at the Hollywood Bowl and it’s on Saturday.

Intel says Hollywood Bowl will be on the Sunday prior to San Diego.

It does seem like they focus on SoCal/LA more than the Bay Area, which does suck for us but it is understandable that an international act would focus on the larger region.
