Hi people, new member, long time fan. Love the site, just recently realized there’s a forum too. Didn’t see a more appropriate category, so I hope I’m in the right place…
So I start chatting with this lady on a dating app, we quickly get to music and I say that for the past 7-8 years it’s been more or less only KGLW for me. She’s not familiar, but seems like she might have a good taste in music, so I start raving about 26 studio albums, all the different genres and warn her to stop me because I’m not really a normal person when it comes to Gizz.
A little later she asks me what song would be a good start and I suggest kexp session, the one starting with Crumbling Castle. Her reaction: “ok, for the first minute and something very 70s, grandiose, fantastically weird vocals, haunting like. And then a break in the song, fantastic, I like it. King Crimson is the first thing that comes to mind. Wonderful.”
I ask her to marry me, she says if my choice of music is like this, all the other stuff can’t be bad either, so she wouldn’t mind.
Exciting stuff, Zeeee! Sounds like you’ve got it made. Hope it turns out well.
I’ve been married since 2008 to a person who doesn’t get as into music as I do. That’s worked out pretty well because I get obsessed and she’s willing to listen. It took years and years for me to get her into Phish, but now we’ve seen them together about five times, and we’ve even brought our kids to three shows.
Gizz has been a tougher sell because of the metal. But I’ve been making some progress with the new album, BF3k, Sketches, Ice Death, PMDB, and some others. The big test is now as I try to persuade her to book flights to Athens in June for the family’s first Gizz show.
Ok, I wasn’t quite serious about the marriage, but let’s see how it goes. This was a stellar kick-off and she’s earned a ton of credits with that reaction, that’s for sure. Plovdiv residency was mentioned
I’ve got a kid from my first (and only) marriage and I took her to back-to-back Gizz shows when she was 8, so a big parenting goal achieved.
Our group had 7 kids ages 10-16 with us at the Gorge. Would love to do the Athens thing, but it’s just not in the cards with all the other stuff we got going on.
My partner came and had a great time camping at the Caverns and would probably go to a show again if they’re in town. But I didn’t ask her to do my East Coast road trip with @AlteredBeef haha.
I met my current girlfriend in line at Red Rocks last year. Not sure how that’s relevant to your story but it is to the topic. I hope everything goes well with you and your love quest!
I had been playing Gizz around the house/car for years around my wife, mostly to scowls and eye rolls, until fall ‘22 when I had the ‘Roo ‘22 YouTube on for family game night. Wife was all “holy shit what is this?” The kids, who had been subjected to lots of Gizz YouTubes informed her. Within a few minutes she was enthralled with the energy, and blown away. I informed her she had been eye rolling them for years, she said seeing them made all the difference. She went to Remlinger 23 all three nights and was hooked.
One of the other Moms who came with our huge group at the Gorge had been going through the same thing with my buddy (her husband). I told her about my wife’s experience getting introduced slowly, and she grudgingly agreed to come. During Magenta Mtn I spotted her having the time of her life, and she said “ you were right”
