King Crimson

I wasn’t sure what to listen to yesterday and I’d heard some of you on this forum talking about King Crimson so I put on their debut album. I loved it, but not sure where to go from there. Which King Crimson album would you recommend checking out next? (Also, would any of you recommend checking out other 60s/70s prog rock bands such as Yes or Genesis?)

Personally, I like to go chronologically, that way you can understand their development, but that’s just my approach.
Regarding other bands, there are plenty of great bands like Gentle Giant, Rush, Van der Graaf Generator (!), Amon Düül II, Supertramp, Procol Harum, but also more unknown ones like Gong, Camel, Nektar, Eloy, Gnidrolog, Kayak, Klaatu, Happy the Man, Caravan. Definitely a lot to listen to and see what you like.

After I heard Court I went for Red and Discipline.

  • Red is the last before their hiatus and is heavy prog rock. Perfect record but Starless is the highlight for sure.
  • Discipline is very different as the start of their '80s trilogy but its a lot of fun. Interlocking riffs, Gamelan rhythms, new wave inspiration, abstract lyrics.

If you want more of Court check out In the Wake of Poseidon.
