imagine looking at a venn diagram that includes all creative content released by king gizzard and the lizard wizard, each bubble representing an album.
where the bubbles overlap you would notice: musical elements, storyline characters, artwork, lyrics, etc.
those overlaps are what is known as ‘the gizzverse’.
many fans have expressed some very creative interpretations of what the gizzverse is.
i really enjoy the overlapping elements, but that’s about as far as i go with it.
I like what fur_and_eye said and want to add my personal idea… The Gizzverse is the lore that surrounds the topics the band writes about. There are intersections with our world and there are departures from our world.
A main character in the Gizzverse is Han-Tyumi a robot/cyborg that has really cool glasses or eyes.
don’t tell me how to gizz.
Quotations are allowed, but only 2 and a half lines?
I am happy to join the conversation, but am sorry to say I shall respond as I want and will disregard this note for people wanting to join the conversation.
The “Gizzverse” can be talked about many ways and I can’t say I understand how to navigate it. There’s no “official Gizzverse lore and connections” book by Stu (but god I hope one day), but there are musical motifs that show up in different albums and lyrical callbacks to old albums.
Among the earliest musical motif calling back to an older album was the opening track from Nonagon Infinity we hear the track Robot Stop do a little riff that is the main riff and flute part in the song Hot Water off of the album I’m In Your Mind Fuzz. These two albums are both called back to again in the album Murder of the Universe where the track The Lord of Lightning has parts calling back to People Vultures from Nonagon and the Mind Fuzz suite from that album. There’s also a clear lyrical callback in that track to Nonagon Infinity.
A more recent example was how the 2023 albums PetroDragonic Apocalypse and The Silver Cord having some musical similarities. You asked for no links, but there are some YouTube videos going into more depth of the musical connections between the two. And the most recent album Flight b741 has lyrics calling back to The Silver Cord with the opening track Mirage City having a line “where Chang’e plays her super strings” and Chang’e is a track from the album TSC.
Beyond musical and lyrical connections, it’s also believed there are many stories that are inner connected within the Gizzverse, possibly often having recurring characters such as Han-Tyumi. This is where the Gizzverse conversations often get more speculative, but also more juicy! What else would you like to know or converse about within the Gizzverse friend? What albums have been calling to you recently and what curiosities do you have about it possibly correlating to the greater Gizzverse?
One interpretation of mine is that Stu has visions of an apocalyptic future constantly rolling around in his mind, and glimpses of that future work their way into the lyrics of lots of songs.
“The Gizzverse” is our shorthand for referring to that apocalyptic future.
Love this interpretation. For myself, I would say “futures”–I feel like the Gizzverse consists of overlapping realities.
thank you all, guys, you’re amazing
(the “quotations are allowed, but shall be limited to two and a half lines” was a joke, and I thought it was clear because I used “shall” instead of “will”, but not only I’m Italian, my sense of humor is often unclear - to myself as well)
I have questions to ask, but will do so once I’ll have studied your responses <3
first thought: would you extend the connections between the gizzverse and our world, to musical quotations of other groups?
Example: Open Water quotes Overkill
Example: Anoxia quotes Time We Left This World Today
