As the Austin marathon show draws ever closer, I wanted to ask y’all how the merch table has been re:posters on this tour. My friends and I are going to hang outside Germania Amp. on Friday, and I’m hoping to hear from others who’ve done the same on any of these 2024/marathon dates.
I remember Red Rocks in Oct. '22 was a bit of a nightmare, camped outside the venue for hours and still wasn’t certain there would be Galea posters available. Compare that to the '23 residencies, it seemed like the boys took notes and made sure there were plenty of posters available, even some extras! What do y’all think it’ll be like this time around?
The sooner you get in line the better your chances. I hit the 5 show CA run, queued up a couple hours in advance of doors & went straight to merch line as soon as I got in, got posters for every show that way. If you’re just going for standard not foil you can be a little looser with it as supplies are higher, but the closer you are to front of the line when doors open the shorter your poster line wait will be.
For example, in San Diego there were only 5-6 people in front of me at doors. I ended up getting poster #25 but by the time I finished buying it there were several hundred people in line behind me.
I think they’ve been extremely hard to get. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that’s there no buying limit. I was in front of multiple people in the merch line at the rave that bought 5+ posters
I’ll never understand this. Both from the merch booths perspective and the fan perspective. It just feels greedy to me and leaves others unhappy.
I remember a few years ago seeing Tool, I got in line early but the venue sort of messed up the line and a bunch of people were able to get in front of me at the merch booth and then were walking away with 5+ posters so that by the time I got there they were sold out. I was so bummed, since I waited for 3 hours in line to be near the front. Same posters were already on ebay while I was at the concert.
Generally they give you a tube shaped plastic bag at the table. Bringing tubes in is venue specific, most allow it but some don’t. It’s a good idea to check with the venue ahead of time on that if you plan on bringing one.
I would go post up anywhere from noon to 2 to make sure you get one. No telling how many people will show up early, especially in a bigger place like Texas. People will be coming in from everywhere.
It’s fun to meet people and watch the crowd form anyway.
Make sure you know where the line actually begins. A lot of times they will move the line to another side of the building, or a different direction or something. I have seen several people wander off to go eat or use the restroom or something and come back to see the line was moved. Make sure you know where the pit entrance is vs. the GA line too if there is one.
Then the last hurdle is security. They can really slow you down. It’s a good idea to just not have much on you. If you have a purse or back pack, they might have to search through the whole thing, and that takes up time. My friend was right behind me in line at this last show and got held up because they had to search his bag. He got a foil, but was in line for quite awhile because of that. Missed his spot on the rail, lol. That’s another thing. If you are the first in line, you have the opportunity to go get your poster real quick and get the rail, especially if you have another person with you.
Yeah, Atlanta will be a big one. I would definitely get there early for Atlanta. I was actually talking to some people that planned on going real early as well.
I was able to get one of the gold foils both days at Red Rocks by arriving a little over an hour early. Was not expecting it to be so easy after I heard about how much of a pain it was last time they were there.
