Gizz Vocabulary

One of my biggest enjoyments in King Gizzard’s music is the robust vocabulary found in their lyrics. Really fun words I love to learn. Discuss your favorite entomological Gizzisms!

I’ll start: Theophany — a deity revealing itself to mortal minds. Mythological examples include Moses’ burning bush and Zeus giving a golden shower.

Joey uses the word in “Loyalty,” but it’s a concept that suffuses the Gizzverse at large. The Han-Tyumi dialogue in Sketches “come here boy / are you God? / I am that which I am+I am true perspective” all relates to a godlike presence making itself known to unsuspecting bystanders.

This links to Philip K Dick, especially his VALIS experiences. He often felt a very real God was communicating with him via hard to decipher sensory downloads. He worked these into his novels, which have influence the Gizz lyricists.

As a big MOTU fan, all the words there titillate the hungry ear. Love to taste those piquant nuggets.

Lugubrious (Mournful, dismal, or gloomy) is a great word that I learned from MOTU.
I was familiar with the term, but the crazy context of how savoir-faire (tact/social know-how) is used in that album has also made it stick with me.
