Order cheap camping gear for pickup at a Dicks/Wal-Mart/whatever nearby, fly in, pick it up, then leave/return/donate it afterwards is the move. Don’t have to worry about bringing gear on the plane and should be much cheaper than lodging.
From what I have seen on Reddit the last year, you and a ton of Canadians and Europeans who are (rightfully) sick of the US’s shit
a lot of us Americans are too, sigh
Holy crap– so, no FOV3?!? That really sucks. Where was this posted?
Seems like it would be hard to pull off a replacement without an established festival-hosting location elsewhere.
The County meeting was today. Still seems up in the air, the venue has a list of things they want in order for shows to continue there. Kinda seems like the venue & county are playing chicken rn. But if it’s not at Meadow Creek I’d expect FOV 3 to be at a different venue rather than cancelled.
Seems like a risky game of chicken for the venue, unless they know that there’s huge community support for the County approving their expanded business. (Which there might be, if they bring in enough visitor spending for hotels and other businesses. Or not, if they’re not a big piece of the economy, and/or if they have lots of unpopular or expensive impacts.) If they don’t have strong community support and threaten to pull out, the County might just say, “thanks, bye.”
Also, if they’re saying “we’re not holding our 2027 events,” I hope they’ve told the scheduled bands.
The band knows something at least, there’s a spot in the video of the meeting where someone from the venue basically says they have 30 shows scheduled and they’re not changing the announcement dates for us.
[side note] 30 shows scheduled?!? Sounds like the band and management have been busy; looking forward to hearing more.
On the festival situation – from a skim of the meeting documents, it doesn’t look great for the venue/organizers. Whether you agree with them or not, having multiple reported violations and several recommended changes is not a great position to be in if you want to get approval to increase the size of your events. (I’m not taking anybody’s side – just generalizing from past experience with different kinds of permits.)
Also of note, they’ve already announced the dates for FOV '27, but not the venue…
Well, I hope there’s a pdoom email update soon.
Yeah, same here
I feel like a venue change is really unlikely - 10 months out to find, permit, and plan logistics for a 10k+ person festival is very tight. IMO if Meadow Creek doesn’t happen it either won’t happen, or they’ll do a 3-night run at an established venue (Red Rocks?) with additional bands.
I think 11.10 is the next county meeting so maybe we’ll get dates after then.
Remember, kids – always treat powerpoint like it’s loaded.
(Or stick a fork in it.)
On the topic of flying with camping gear, instead of trying to get all that gear through tsa, I’ve UPS’d it all to a friend who I was visiting on the same trip. More fragile items in the center of the box wrapped with sleeping bags. I think I shipped it a few weeks in advance of the trip so I knew everything arrived in good shape before I left home.
If you have friends or family in the right place, going this route can save some hassle. Hoping FOV goes ahead as planned.
The local politics/permitting side of this has been like a car crash… you want to look away, but once you see it, you just can’t. Its perversely fascinating, but I’d really rather it all stayed behind the scenes for my own sanity, lol.
Regardless of outcome, we have learned that the venue team has, charitably, some room to grow when it comes to attention to detail and the messaging. At first I thought the “no events in 2027” slide kerfuffle was just kind of a subtle negotiating tactic, but I dunno it seems more likely they tripped over their own shoelaces and self-owned. To wit, when the venue team went to load up the slides and share it on the zoom meeting, they first shared their entire screen and then brought it up in a browser window, you could see a few other browser tab titles for a good 30 seconds, one of which was “grandkids % of trust” and another (which was actually flashed briefly!) titled “Q3 cash flow” or something like that. Yeeeeeesh.
Yeah, there was some concerning stuff, like the seeming lack of care/detail given to the emergency plan.
