per me è NY+CH tra Ragged Glory/Weld e Broken Arrow
David Gilmour circa 1975
Big Red circa 1999
I started going to concerts in 1972. Right off the bat, these are the 10 cats whose tone really melted my mind the first time I saw them:
Mick Taylor w/ Rolling Stones - 1972
Jimmy Page w/Led Zeppelin - 1972 and 1973
Mick Ronson w/ David Bowie - 1972
David Gilmour w/ Pink Floyd - 1972
Robin Trower - 1973
Billy Gibbons w/ ZZ Top - 1973
Frank Zappa - 1973
Neil Young - 1973
Rory Gallagher - 1974
Phil Manzanera w/ Roxy Music - 1975
I’ll second Big Red circa 99
Good suggestions above
(guys, this is amazing - like school, if it worked)
can you point me at the exact album?
For Phish, live is the way
Live Phish 08 (7/10/99) is readily available (streaming, etc). and a great example of what I mean. That “Chalk Dust Torture” is one of their greatest performances ever.
I like one that sounds like Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa a lot but also sometimes a fan of Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I mean, I like having a huge array of instrument sounds to listen to, but with guitars I especially like bright chime/jangle and buzzy retro fuzz. ![]()
I’m usually more of a “wow this is the perfect guitar tone for this song” person than I am a “wow this person’s tone is amazing” person. More of a reactive tone-observer than a proactive tone-observer, if you will.
Which is to say, I don’t often find myself seeking out something to listen to based on guitar tone. But when I do, its usually Mark Knopfler.
