I wanted to share this site, I use it all the time (disclaimer: its published by my employer, doesn’t impact my view but I acknowledge inherent bias!).
Every Noise at Once is an ongoing attempt at an algorithmically-generated, readability-adjusted scatter-plot of the musical genre-space, based on data tracked and analyzed for 6,279 genre-shaped distinctions by Spotify as of 2023-09-15. The calibration is fuzzy, but in general down is more organic, up is more mechanical and electric; left is denser and more atmospheric, right is spikier and bouncier.

It’s just a great resource for researching genres complete with Spotify playlists for genres.
For example, using this tool I have found out I’m really into a silly titled genre called Crank Wave.

And for that genre there are several playlists provided:
And here are new releases in the Crank Wave genre:

The site provides plenty of ways for exploring genres… such as
- starting from Gizz and working your way out: https://everynoise.com/canonicalpath.cgi?uri=King+Gizzard+and+the+Lizard+Wizard
- A list of all the genres in different tiers
- provides an interface to do research
- a bunch of other stuff is included too.
Anyway I am endlessly interested in this… one time I started listening to The Sound of Irish Post-Punk and that led me to binge this band Turnstiles (not Turnstile, Turnstiles) that I really enjoyed and still listen to from time to time. Hope this is interesting to you all as well!
BTW thought it would be cool if anyone found a cool genre if they could share here <3
