So, I’m not a musician, but I’m really interested in sound-making thingies. And, from the videos and pictures I’ve seen so far, it seems like the various members of the band who play bass always use short-scale basses. Obviously they sound great, but it’s a little surprising, given how common long-scale basses are. (Plus some people are really negative about short-scale basses, but I don’t get why.) Anybody know why Lucas, Joey, and others in Gizz tend to favor short scales?
They’re a good bit easier to play, so that’s probably why. They also have a different sound, which some prefer and some dislike; it may be that they prefer the short scale sound too.

On the “easier” thing, I wondered if maybe people who started with guitar would prefer the shorter scale to have more similar fingering. Maybe?
I was going to use this oppurtunity to showcase our “gear” section for each member but it appears Lukey is the least featured

I don’t have an actual reason for it, but when I asked Lucas about his thoughts on Rickenbacker basses a few years back he told me that he likes them but just prefers to play short scale basses. He has also stated that he was originally just a guitar player but took over bass when they kicked out the bassist in his first band, so he likely started out just purchasing short scale basses as like Jamie said they’re much easier to play.

Well, “easier/more fun to play” is a good reason, and they definitely sound good.
