I think i’ve listened to all the quotes & teases & let’s get real high/grow wings and fly jams prior to this one. As far as I can tell, this is wholly unique. Saw some discussion of it in the setlist thread, but nothing else. When I was at the show it definitely caught me. I started to freak out & I wrote down the line about a “moth into the fire”.
Decided to try and transcribe it. What I have is below. Anyone wanna take a listen & see what you hear?

Can someone help me out with this? I was watching the Vegas Shanghai last night and heard this for the first time.
Do we know what this is? A yet-to-be-recorded snippet of a new song? Long lost extra verses? Has it ever appeared in a jam outside of Shanghai?

first time was in Philly 8/27 during hot water. Didn’t hear it again until the other night. seems like a fully formed idea. maybe some foreshadowing of Phantom Island stuff?

Given that its appeared in two different songs, I’d tend to agree it seems like a fully formed idea. To wit, at Vegas, Joey says something to Stu to which Stu says something (faint on the mic) to the effect of “yeah go for it” and then Joey moves into the melody for this piece.
Here’s to hoping its one of the Phantom Is./Orchestral pieces… the melody would pair well with some strings behind it!
Hope it pops up again this tour…

I think this was only for the newer ‘when I first saw you’ lyrics. The basic grow wings and fly part has been around for a while and may have started as an ad-lib during Shanghai.

First appearance was 3-11-23 Warsaw, Poland, which was almost certainly improvised as it was basically just “let’s get real high” and “let’s eat apple pie” at that point. “Grow wings and fly” was added as the tour progressed and now here we are. It’s like they’ve said, a lot of their songs start out as live improv that gets added to over time or revisited and expanded.
