This is coo, apparently people were lined up overnight to get one!
Iâm all for these creative art-records, but I remember a disclaimer on the first Sleep one that it wasnât actually suitable to listen to, which is a bummer. Like go wild, but if its not a functional record it kind of defeats the purpose I think. I wanna actually use my rare collectibles.
Anyone have any good stories about great deals you missed out on? I have a few.
First is this Donald Fagen vinyl boxset, which went for like $50-60 when it came out iirc. Now it goes for around $500. Almost all of the albums in the box are out of print, so you canât get them individually either.

Another was a used copy of the original 2000 pressing of Phishâs Farmhouse around 2018. They were asking only $50 for it because of a single skip on Piper (my least favorite track on the album). This stings a little less now because of the repress, but I still wish I copped it.

The last one I can think of off the dome is a really nice copy of Brian Wilson Presents Smile I saw in Dublin for âŹ25. Now it goes for around $100. Iâve since gotten the big Smile Sessions boxset, but Iâd still like the Brian Wilson version; even though I donât think it lives up to the Beach Boys version, it has a few additions I love.
Like basically all the Phish and Grateful Dead RSD releases. Whoops.
I used to be a subscriber to VMP, which has a deeply toxic FOMO culture to it. So while I affordably got some great stuff, unless you poured money into it and were constantly available for drops, you were frequently missing out on more releases that instantly became very desirable. Some of the bigger ones to me are the De La Soul reissues (obviously thats a bit different now), and Outkast and stuff.
Outside of that, I really could have chosen to just go through with the Blonde reissue purchase but decided not to at the last second as it felt frivolous that week, which seems dumb now. Had a couple of opportunities for a Beatles Mono box at a reasonable proce too, but even then it was a big committment that I wasnât ready for.
wall displays are awesome, I wish I had the space for one, but I canât help but side-eye people who buy records just to frame them and never play them, especially when you could just print out a 12x12" print for way less and it would look the exact same. That stuff is just baffling to me.
To be fair, some people definitely do just print their own. But yes, agreed. Saving valuable/rare releases for archival purposes is one thing, but people buying records with no ability or intention to listen to them will kill the resurgence of the format if it hasnât already. I think was it 50% of people who bought a record in the US last year didnât own turntables? Doesnât account for people who planned to get one in the near future as its very common now to start with records first, but all about intention once again.
Nice RTJ records
Fuzz Club Red Rocks just shipped
Fuzz Club RR box just landed on my doorstep. Wife leaves for a couple of days tomorrow so I will be CRANKING this.
Mine just arrived minutes ago too! Itâs massive haha. I knew it would be but having it in hand is something else.
Yeah, seriously. Itâs heavy in both senses! This last time I was this intimidated by a boxset was Europe '72.
Discogs right now:
I have the space, but my only Fuzz Club box is too tall for the shelf
Graphic design is my passion.
When itâs free, sometimes itâs worth keeping something just for the cover art alone.
I donât collect records but sometimes something like this comes along and makes me want to startâŚ
crouching tiger hidden gabber is a big wishlist item for me, especially with more than the fairy on the flipside. DG seem to be repressing a lot of stuff as late, fingers crossed that gets one soon.
Yeah Iâve got my copy of Government Plates secured, last âbigâ one to go (except Exmilitary, which I have given up hope for). Pattern seems to be one per year for RSD/essentials so unless they somehow manage Exmilitary for next year, Steroids seems like it has a fair chance.
